The Ghost in the Machine

But something SUFFICIENTLY WEIRD happened this evening for me to want to share it. Not the first time I've had this sort of thing happen and not scary - but most interesting:
I work in a tall building some of the time, with a basement carpark. This was where I headed after work today, as my car was parked there – a Ford station wagon. I was a bit late leaving, and there weren’t many cars in there. There were, however, two same model Ford station wagons - mine and one other. One had a person in the drivers seat - so clearly not mine. I went to the other.
And couldn’t open it. I thought it was just the Central Locking Device being difficult, but I nevertheless glanced at the other car (a distance of some 20 feet or so). The person was still there, and I remember his appearance vividly - young, male, sandy/ blondish hair. Looking at or reading something – a map or mobile phone maybe. Then I returned my attention to opening my own car, except that I couldn’t because it wasn’t mine, the other one was. And then I remembered it was because that was where I had left it.
So, not surprisingly, I looked back at it with some apprehension – after all this place is hardly the backstreets of London, but you never know. The person had gone. Vanished. Was no more. And with the acoustics in that building, there is absolutely no way they could have got out and left without my hearing.
Funnily enough, I wasn’t frightened – just a little – surprised! I walked over and activated the CLD, and of course the car opened straight away – so the door was still locked. I stood staring at the drivers seat for a moment, then decided to do an experiment. I shut the dowalked back over to the other car to see if what I had seen might have been a trick of the light. But there was NO WAY no matter how hard I tried or where I stood or what position I adopted that I could get the image I’d seen to reappear.
Well! I needed the car, of course – to drive back to the hotel. And I can’t say I didn’t feel just a little bit strange getting behind the wheel. But I didn’t feel as if I was ‘sharing’ with anyone or squashing somebody! Whoever it was had most definitely departed.
I drove up to the beach and went for a walk, thinking about it and decided: 1) to share it on LJ and 2) to ask about the car – as it is a work car which I’m given to drive just for work. I’m really interested now to know who’s been driving it in the past and whether anything has happened .....
So that was the weird thing which happened to me this evening. As I said – I wasn’t scared. But I’m kinda glad there’s nothing untoward in the hotel room right now!
So far .....
