Character meme

Here’s an interesting meme pinched in part from a non TF writing group. It’s to make you think deeply about your character by answering certain fundamental questions, so that hopefully this depth reflects in writings about the character (even if the subject matter of the writing is relatively trivial).

To add to the challenge, there’s a suggestion that questions be answered in the first person and in a few paragraphs of not more than 300 words. So you could answer as though you are the character and are being asked the question direct.

Potentially quite insightful, I suggest! Even if you didn’t post the results but did it as a private, reflective exercise :

THE MEME

A. Character
B. Continuity
C. Set at what point in time?

D. Questions:
1. Is the character contented with their ‘lot,’ and if not, why not?
2. What makes them really happy (or if they’re unemotional, then contented, satisfied, complete feeling etc)
3. What makes them really sad (discontented, unsatisfied, incomplete etc)
4. If they could live anywhere in the universe, where would it be?
5. If they suddenly landed a whole heap of money, what would they do with it?
6. What is their favourite colour and why?
7. Who is their ‘best friend’ and why (or if such a concept is foreign, then why?)
8. Do they want to be in a ‘serious relationship/attachment?’ What does this mean?
9. Do they believe in Primus (or any higher power)?
10. Are they afraid to die? What is the main reason for the answer.

Ha! Have fun.

Here’s characters I intend to do this for: Swindle, Smokescreen, Shrapnel, Kickback, Bombshell, Mirage, Jazz. For starters!

Whohaaa! This I'm gonna do, hehe. Mainly 'cause it seems to be something rather nice to do - wondering when I should set it, though.

Hah, Dev before getting his proper frame or when Cybertron... mmm, hehe. Oi, Post-Pit or Pre-Pit? *lol* This is gonna be haaaarrrrd.

XD

OOh yeah - would love to see either Devcon. LOL. And this is hard I agree - really requires some 'getting into headspace' and - given that TF's live a very long time and have lots of experiences - would almost certainly change with time.

Maybe it would be interesting to do character at earlier time first and see how he morphs into later one ??

Look forward to in any event - awesome XD

Oooh, intriguing! I'm looking forward to the results of this :D

Oh, this looks fun!

Glad you like it! I'd love to see one for Rumble XD

There'll definitely be one for Rumble, though I don't know yet if RP!Rumble or headcanon!Rumble. Although with our discussion on dark!Jazz, I'm awfully tempted to do one on him as well, just to see how well we match (or not) *laughs*

[identity profile] ayngelcat.livejournal.com 2011-01-05 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
Yay for Rumble! look forward to it! (I sincerely doubt if he'll be honest with all the answers LOL.)

And Jazz - cool. That's the good thing about this, as I see it it's really a personal exercise for the writer to develop their character, but as a basis for note comparing would be very constructive (and fun) too :D

That's true! Since this is to be answered in 1st person, writing/reading Rumble's answers will probably turn into a write/read "between the lines" exercise.

1st person is only recommended to make it a different sort of challenge. I like writing 1P so that appeals - but not eveybody does. 3rd P answers could be just as interesting :-)

Having said that - Rumble's 1P response would be entertaining indeed !! XD

Maybe I should do a Rumble answer and then a "Rumble to English" translation ;)

I'd consider doing a Sinnertwin one, but I'm afraid all the answers would be 'Sixshot'. Maybe an Astrotrain one...

[identity profile] ayngelcat.livejournal.com 2011-01-05 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
Hahaha! Yes - that is the problem with 'adapted' memes when it comes to some characters! Poor Sinnertwin - you can just picture him answering like that, with much enthusiasm and sincerity.

Astrotrain one would be really interesting :D
